Because of a trademark dispute, Diego Maradona may be removed from FIFA 22 Ultimate Team

December 9th, 2021: Disappointing news for FIFA fans: Diego Maradona may be removed from FIFA 22 Ultimate Team because of an Argentine court ruling. The Argentinian football legend died in November 2020 at the age of 60. This football legend appears as a famous FUT Icon in EA Sports' FIFA gaming franchise's FIFA 22 Ultimate Team game mode.

Maradona was the first player to appear in EA Sports' FIFA 18's FIFA Ultimate Team game mode. He is not the only one featured as a FUT Icon; others include Ronaldo, Nazário, Ronaldinho, Thierry Henry, and Lev Yashin. FUT Icons, which replaced FUT Legends in FIFA 18, were introduced by EA Sports.

On FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, the former FC Barcelona and Napoli forward has three unique FUT Icon player items: -

· A 91-rated base FUT Icon,

· A 95-rated mid-FUT Icon and

· A 97-rated prime FUT Icon.

All three of these items are extremely rare and highly sought after by FUT players all over the world. These are some of the best items in the game. However, an Argentine court recently issued a ruling that suggests Maradona will be removed from FIFA 22 Ultimate Team very soon. This decision was made in a trademark dispute in which a judge recognised Sattvica's trademark right claim on the word Maradona. Matas Morla, a lawyer, owns this business.

The EA allegedly struck a deal with Maradona's former manager, Stéfano Ceci, who allegedly signed all the documents but later couldn't prove he had the legal authority to do so. This became the reason for Maradona's removal from the game entirely.

On October 7, 2021, EA also made a public announcement about their review of their naming rights agreement with FIFA. This also implies that their EA Sports FIFA gaming franchise will be renamed.

"As we look ahead, we're considering renaming our global EA SPORTS football games. This means we're looking into our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licences around the world. Football has a bright and promising future. Our top priority is to ensure that we continue to provide the world's best interactive football experiences "According to the EA Statement.
